84 2013 MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST Modem Women’s Milano Modem Women’s Paris Fall-Winter 2013-2014 Covers by MARJANE SATRAPI Born in the region of Guilan, on the shores of the Caspian Sea in Northern part of Iran, Marjane Satrapi grew up in Tehran, within an intellectual family. To escape the repression pursue by the Iranian regime and the war, her parents send her at the age of 14 to study at the French high school of Vienna, in Austria. Between 2000 and 2003 she published the 4 volumes of Persepolis , which later adapted for animation with the voices of Catherine Deneuve, Chiara Mastroianni and Danielle Darrieux . She recounts her childhood in Tehran, and her entry into adult life in Iranian society in the 80s and 90s. The film receives the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, 1 nomination for the Oscars and 2 Césars . Graduated at Beaux-Arts in Teheran and Decorative Arts school in Strabourg, Marjane dedicates herself to the comic strip in Paris with the publication of the albums “Broderie” and “Poulet aux Prunes” which she adapt them later to cine- ma in 2011. Multidisciplinary artist, between her practice of comics, writing, music and cinema, Marjane Satrapi followed her dreams, as a painter, she exhibited for the first time a series of paintings, in Paris, in the gallery Jérôme de Noirmont There she displays large portraits of elegant and inspired women, expressive and simplified in expression. The female characters who inhabit the universe of Marjane Satrapi are enchanting, the graphic treatment, the flat colors, the composition of these paintings reveal all beauty and intelligence. Marjane Satrapi also directed the film “The Jota’s Band” .
