Nacho Carbonell's new collection for Galerie BSL
With his new collection Nacho Carbonell, young design superstar, asserts his peculiar and personal approach of design, in a process mixing nature and plastics.
Within the space of the gallery, and taking advantage of a carte blanche, Nacho presents Luciferase; his new collection inspired by a stone and achieved thanks to a precise control of synthetic resins.
Galerie BSL is a space dedicated to contemporary creation and limited editions, created and curated by Beatrice Saint Laurent. From May to June, Nacho Carbonell takes over the gallery ‘s space to present his new collection as well as his creative process and his experimentation. Through his drawings, models ad material tryouts, visitors are given a deeper insight into Nacho’s workshop and inspirations.
Ignoring the opposition between nature and synthetic as much as the debate opposing artists and desigers, Nacho Carbonell makes his own way through the creative scene. After the Evolution series made of paper pulp, and the Diversity collection of zoomorphic desks, Nacho reinforces his original position and gives birth to Luciferase, a luminous bestiary.
The fifteen pieces of the collection glow in the gallery, the light filtered through colourful resin. From the table lamp to a gigantic standing one, all the pieces let appear crystals, sticks, string and textures through their wide-open holes.
Once again, Nacho demonstrates his passion for unconventional material mixtures and hybrid textures. He plays with mineral and artificial, mixes plastics, sand and pigments and creates his own nature and his species. The light creatures of Nacho Carbonell, between Cyclops and carnivorous plants, have thick rough skins, long lashes or sharp teeth. And the light of the leds pierces through many layers of textures and coloured resins. For the first time using light in his work, the Spanish designer uses it to breathe life into his creations half-stones, half plants, half-animals.
