International Event

For the seventh consecutive year, the doors of museums open on a night of May for a privileged meeting with the public.

Launched in 1999 to the initiative of the French Ministrer of Culture and Communication, this appointment suggested to all the museums of France to open free of charge their doors to the public one Sunday of spring. Since 2001, this European event allows the visitors to discover free of charge the permanent collections, the temporary exhibitions, some thematic circuits and happenings.

For this night, about }}3000 institutions through 40 countries}} in Europe will host all the arts and the curiosities for this very special event.

Curators, comedians, mediators, art historians, musicians, dancers, and even specialists of the spatial world invite us to come to live the museum otherwise. As Frédéric Mittérand (French Ministrer of Culture and Communication) underlines it, "under cover of darkness, in this moment when the senses are astonishingly on the alert, museums become the theater of meetings and unexpected events.
