SWITZERLAND / Basel: Winners of the Designers of the future Award

Design Miami/Basel and W Hotel will present the three awarded designers during Design Miami/Basel.

Every year, at the occasion of Design Miami/Basel the design fair held at the same time as Art Basel, a selection of designers are awarded the Designers of the Future price.
This award honours young professional designers that broaden the understanding and approach of the design culture, and that are showing an innovative and dynamic participation in the contemporary and future design scene.

This year’s winners are Asif Khan from Great Britain, Studio Juju from Singapore and the studio Mischer’Traxler from Austria.

Asif Khan started his London based studio in 2008 and works in the fields of architecture, product interiors and furniture. His practice mixing craftsmanship and new technologies offers unexpected and innovative designs.

Vienna based Mischer’Traxler is a studio held by Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler since 2009. They have an experimental and conceptual approach of design that lead them to create objects, production processes, materials and installations often inspired by nature and careful with sustainability.

Studio Juju is collaboration between Priscilla Lui and Timo Wong started in 2009. They have a hands-on approach of design, focussing on functionality and materials.






The winners have been selected by an international jury that included Wava Carpenter of Design Miami/, Aric Chen of Beijing Design Week, Li Edelkoort of Edelkoort Inc., Marcus Fairs of Dezeen.com, Alexis Georgacopoulos of ECAL, Konstantin Grcic of KGID, Kenya Hara of Muji and Constance Rubini of the School of Decorative Arts Paris.

The Designers of the Future award is an opportunity for the winners to present their work to an international audience of collectors, journalists and dealers. During the fair, visitors will as well discover the answers of the three studios to the brief given by organisators W Hotels and Design Miami/. For the 2011’s edition, the theme is Conversation Pieces and the focus is on social and human relationship, their creations will have to make possible interactions between people and create links and foster communication.
