Wat else is in there?
Kaleidoscope and Mattiazi
Kaleidoscope is a platform consisting of an international quarterly of contemporary art and culture, a project space for exhibitions, and an independent publishing house editing books and catalogues. Based in Milan, this dynamic project turned its programming towards contemporary design by presenting the collaboration between Mattiazzi, a family owned producer of wooden furniture in Udine, Italy; and three internationally renowned designers.
The presentation featured 3 chairs designed respectively by Sam Echt, Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec and Studio Nitzan Cohen. Currated by Florian Lambl from LHCK (currently artistic director of Mattiazzi) the exhibition offered an extra insight into the designers’ personality by playing next to each piece their favourite soundtrack. Projected on big screens, the video clips of the songs were an invitation to sit and watch in one of the Mattiazzi chairs.

This Way
Design Academy Eindhoven
Relatively far away from the most popular areas of Milan during the Salone, the Design Academy Eindhoven’s exhibition was worth the extra fifteen minutes walk. In the beautiful space of the studio Zeta, Design Academy Eindhoven presented a global show, featuring works of recent graduates, talks from alumni, debates and breakfast talks in partnership with Premsela, and a range of experimental food.
Entitled “My way” the show emphasized on students personal direction within the design practice, and the whole exhibition had opened widely the potential definitions of the word design. The big tables and chairs, and the global relaxing atmosphere of the space definitively invited the visitor to sit down for a while, and start a conversation.
During a chilled out opening, director Anne Mieke Eggenkamp gave a colourful speech that was accompanied with an unexpected rainbow cake.

The Milan Breakfasts
Premsela
Premsela, the Netherlands Institute for Design and Fashion, and the Design Academy Eindhoven organised during three mornings what they called the Milan Breakfasts. For those awake enough to get involved in or simply listen to esign discussions relatively early in the morning, that was the place to be.
Fresh coffee and croissnts and an impressive list of guests was welcoming the early birds on the 14th, 15th and 16th of April. In a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, design professionals shared thoughts and debated ideas on the themes of social and open design.
Amongst the guests: Yves Béhar, Martí Guixé, Joost Grootens, Paul Atkinson Jan Boelen, Cheick Diallo, Gijs Bakker, Alberto Meda and Nacho Carbonell.
