Exhibition
The exhibition showcases the revolution engendered by an energetic generation who reversed all of the post-hippy codes and values.
This retrospective brings together the different expressions which made up the punk movement, notably the fashion and the music.
A movement issued by the proletariat sector, low on money and inspiration, Punk emerged in the 60s and exploded during the 70s in the USA and England, as a counter-reaction to a conformist society and the economic crisis. Beyond this phenomenon though is a state of mind, a state of alert, which still exists today and seizes the "little ones" faced with social injustice.
The "punk attitude" is taken on by young rebels: provocative and eccentric allure, nihilist and anti-authority ideology, a Do It Yourself or No Future philosophy. Such liberal expression through clothing, imitating that of the 50s and 60s, the Teddy Boys and Mods, inspired numerous designers.
On display together for this one-off event, the work of 15 renowned photographers will be on display in the Renoma store and in the Renoma Café Gallery, with primarily new photos from Richard Bellia, Bruno Blum, Alain Dister, Brad Elterman, Danny Fields, Bobby Grossman, Bob Gruen, Mick Mercer, François Poulain, Sue Rynski, Dominique Tarlé, Pierre Terrasson, Liliane Vittori, Maurice Wagener and Pierre René Worms.
Privileged witnesses of the Punk revolution, they have captured the US scene of Iggy and The Stooges, MC5, New York Dolls, Television and Richard Hell, les Ramones and les Cramps, the British scene of The Sex Pistols, Clash, The Damned, Siouxsie & the Banshees, the French scene with Stinky Toys, Asphalt Jungle, Metal Urbain and the German scene that brought us Nina Hagen ...
Within the exhibition curated by Maurice Renoma will be a bookshop offering essential reads on Punk.
