The cowards who murdered defenseless people at the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo, also executed public figures who represented the very essence of what we call freedom of expression.

We lost valuable personalities, esteemed artists. People who worked against prejudice, against intolerance, and against frustration. People who allowed us to better understand irony, derision, self-derision, and humor, without any complacency on violence, crime and barbarism.

Their work - even if it might have been controversial and disturbing - has made us aware of the value of democracy, of its fragility, and cemented our decision to never accept to live in a society that does not allow us to express our opinion, when the latter is not complacent about crimes and barbarism.

The entire MODEM team expresses its support to Charlie Hebdo, and honors their courage and their families’ pain.
