The winner of the first edition of the Fashion Prize of Tokyo (FPT) was announced on the 21st of October, during Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO.

Maiko Kurogouchi, the designer of [red]mame[/red] has won the prize to present her future collections at the upcoming FW18/19 and SS19 fashion shows at Paris Fashion Week, an event during the next Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO in March, in addition to receiving full support from the FPT.

After graduating from Bunka Fashion College, Maiko Kurogouchi srarted to work for the Miyake Design Studio where she gained experience in planning and designing Issey Miyake’s Paris collection while launching her own label mame in 2010. She started to present her collection at the overseas exhibition 3 years ago and the brand is now developing a sales channel working with the leading American showroom The News which have sales campaigns in New York and in Paris. Further, mame have 60 local different ways of trading the brands products in Japan and a further 10 overseas, and in recent years’ the brands sales have increased in mainland China, as well as increasing sales in the United States and in France. "I'd like to do shows and presentations while keeping in mind that the fashion show is not my final goal, but to bring the clothes firmly to consumers.", the winning designer, Maiko Kurogouchi said.


The Fashion Prize of Tokyo is launched by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Japan Apparel Fashion Industry Council (JAFI), in Co-Sponsorship with the Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO) which aims to support Tokyo-based designers to grow in the international market. FPT supports the brand one step further than the TOKYO FASHION AWARD project, which supports 6 winning Tokyo-based brands to promote their designs and creativity on an international level.
