A successful edition for the Korean Fashion Week

After its nomination as World Design Capital and its increasingly successful Fashion Week, Seoul aims at becoming a serious competitor to its Western counterparts in 2010.


The 20th anniversary edition of the Korean Fashion Week, which was held from March 26th to April 1st, confirms this trend.

The organisation records a 20% increase of the local visitors compared to last year. The Fashion Week was structured in two parts. On one side, the tradeshow, with more than 100 exhibitors and on the other side, the catwalks. The défilés were splitted into two categories: 45 famous designers were presenting their collection under the Seoul Collection flag and 12 new talents were participating for the Generation Next.

The events aim to become a bridge for Korean fashion. A competition between emerging designers was created to support young creation to establish itself to the international scene. The 10 winners of this edition are: Kang dong jun, Jahee Shin and Bumseck Choi for the menswear collection and Kim Jae hyun, Im sun ok, Lee seok tae, Lee seung hee, Joo hyo soon,Choi ji hyung and Hone hye jin for women collection. The ten finalists will have the possibility to presents their collection to the famous Tranoï in Paris.

International press attended the events, including Rebecca Voight journalist of International Herald Tribune and Le Monde, proving that the events is becoming a world-class fashion festival. Other characteristic of his Seoul Fashion week was that the total of presented collections could be seen on iPhone and Youtube, thanks to the partnership with the magazine W Korea.

After this successful edition, the Korean Fashion Week wants to confirm and improve the event on the occasion of the next fashion week, held from October 22nd to October 28th
