080 Barcelona Fashion - Spring Summer 2011

Since 2007 the project 080 Barcelona Fashion is aiming to promote Catalan designers and manufacturers. A major fashion event of the season, it is presenting upcoming designers at the catwalk shows as well as international guest designers. The project being a first part of Action Plan for Catalan Fashion program by Ministry of Innovation consist of a contest for Catalan designers, which is organized every season involving international jury members to discern the best collections.


The recent session of 080 Barcelona took place from July 13 to 15, 2010. Permanent participants like Josep Abril, Miriam Ponsa, Alexis Reyna, Manuel Bolano, Juan Antonio Avalos were showing their collections along with international brands Manish Arora and Yiorgos Eleftheriade and upcoming Korean labels Juun J and Songzio.

International jury with participation of renowned expert buyer Maria Luisa, Jean Paul Gauvin (Fashion Daily News), Donald Potard (Agent de Luxe agency), Takashi Yokoyama (HP France), Catalan designer Jose Castro and British fashion writer Mark Tungate selected designers Juan Antonio Avalos for men's collection and Manuel Bolano for womenswear. Both laureates this season were inspired by historic medieval reminiscent in their collections.

Modern knights by Juan Antonio Avalos were playing Californian surfers of the 1970s, with the fluorescent colors and sportswear elements giving lightness to armor volumes.

Manuel Bolano imaginary medieval queens inspired by Virgin Mary statues in countryside churches are exuberant and romantic representation of Spanish couture traditions.

Another strong point of the event, Cardona Bonache, a designers duo presented its third common collection "Lesson 3". Constructive geometric forms and sophisticated cuts proposed the monochrome minimalist silhouettes. Next step for the brand would be a showroom presentation in New York next September.

The laureate of last season, a duo Jan Iu Mes menswear collection was showing modern tailoring with an elegant casual touch brought by colorful prints.

Fresh feminine styles by Montse LIarte were developing a futuristic vision of clothing, based on the game of transparence and silver shimmering.

The Showroom at 080 Barcelona presented fifty brands, including all designers showing at catwalk as well as Catalan and international designer labels of ready-to-wear and accessories.
