The exhibition LUDWIG GOES POP offers an opportunity to explore this phenomenon and to comprehend Pop Art as an expression of a modern attitude toward life. In the 1960s the “everyday” had arrived—it had made its way into art: in all manner of play, from humorously ironic to biting and critical, artists explored the Zeitgeist in their art, integrated fragments and quotes from the world of consumerism and advertising, comics, science, technology, erotic, and mass media.

The second edition of One Torino features a singular show rooted in Torino’s social, political and artistic heritage as much as in its contemporary scene and popular representations. The show takes place within a eighteenth century architectural gem: Palazzo Cavour. Artissima has invited a “retired” artist with an inquisitive mind and a talent for discovery and display to act as the ‘non-curator’ for One Torino, namely Maurizio Cattelan. He chose to work in a team with Palais de Tokyo’s Myriam Ben Salah and independent curator Marta Papini.

He explores the effects of time – be it historical time, technical time, or the time of the work itself – and puts them into action. In such relationships and gaps, the erosion of memory and the corruption of information are exposed, thus confronting the visitor with the wearing down of meanings as well as the destabilisation of feelings.

Fed by various sources including Caretos Portuguese rituals, sky charts and trips made in parts of the world such as India and the Sahara, the drawings of the Portuguese artist Rui Moreira combine geometric and abstract decorative motifs with figures evoking mythical figures and deities. They are “inner landscapes” in which the repetition of simple gestures and “internal and external movements and rhythms” lends the work a physical dimension.

Rhythm 0, 1974 is one of Marina Abramovic’s earliest and most challenging works, in which she examines the relationship between performer and audience. Abramovic, in a passive role, let viewers act on her body in any way they chose, using 72 objects placed on a table, including a feather, scalpel, whip and pistol: some give pleasure, others might inflict pain. Initially gentle, the audience gradually became aggressive. The installation reconstructs the table and parts of the original performance.

Aiming to encourage a plurality of viewpoints on contemporary production, Mudam constantly rejigs the presentation of the artworks in its collection with new themes and concepts. A gallery of the museum will thus be devoted to an exhibition devised by the Mudam communication department, taking the (old or young) visitor's relationship with the art as a starting point. Conceived as a fun route through a selection of pieces from the collection, the exhibition emphasizes the viewer and his or her role in the museum and, at the same time, attempts to challenge some clichés about contemporary art and those who view it.

This is the case for the important exhibition the Castello dedicates to the famous French artist Sophie Calle, an unchallenged protagonist on the world art scene, who will present a totally site-specific project for the monumental halls on the second floor of the Sabauda Residence.

Nirvana is the first comprehensive exploration of the influence of erotica in design, fashion and contemporary art. Visitors will discover objects of superior workmanship, many of them rare and inaccessible, made from materials associated with the world of luxury goods and craftsmanship. The exhibition forces us to re-examine our own ideas and perceptions of pleasure, and shows how forms can be transmuted from the private to the public sphere. Three major creators are given carte blanche within the exhibition: Mark Woods (designer), Betony Vernon (jewellery designer) and Nika Zupanc (designer).
