The exhibition will present an unknown aspect of the work of Man Ray, major artist who renews fashion photography. He gives it an experimental dimension made of technical inventiveness and an unprecedented freedom of tone coming from the art of the stage and the cultural life.
Introduced to Dadaist and then Surrealist artists, he quickly became a photographer for Paul Poiret, Elsa Schiaparelli and Coco Chanel, also working for Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair and Vogue.
The exhibition will address the constant back and forth between "art for art" and productions subject to commercial commission.
This retrospective will present between 160 and 180 vintage prints of Man Ray, from variuos publications to highlight his role in the dissemination of a new aesthetic.
