Photographer Germaine Krull’s reputation as an avant-garde artist comes largely from her groundbreaking portfolio ‘Métal’ (1928). Using unusual perspectives and cropped details, she depicts iron constructions like cranes, bridges, machines, and the Eiffel Tower. The sequence of images in the portfolio turns the individual images into a filmic ‘dance of naked metal’, portraying these gigantic metal constructions as dynamic monuments of a modern age. The exhibition presents all 64 plates from the portfolio ‘Métal’, along with additional original photographs from the series from the collections of the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation.
