CARTE BLANCHE”... IS

GÉRARD GAROUSTE

For this edition, which is dedicated to the Men’s Collection A W 14/15, Modem

is giving “carte blanche” to

Gérard Garouste

,

painter, illustrator, decorator

and sculptor, born in Paris in 1946. Being known as one of the most important

French artists, his figurative, mythological and allegorical paintings are often

recognized as “post-modern”.

A passionate reader of the Bible, tales and legends,

Gérard Garouste

questions the notion of the subject in paintings by exploring the mysteries

of the origin and transmission.

In 1991, he founded

La Source”,

an association for educational and social

action, which helps underprivileged children and young people who are

even excluded from society to thrive by participating in workshops led by

professional artists.

He exhibited at the Venice Biannale (1984), in New York (Leo Castelli Gallery,

1985),

Los Angeles (Santa Monica Museum of Art, 1990) and Tokyo (National

Museum of Art, 1990).

His work is represented amongst others in public collections of the Centre

Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris,

the Ludwig Museum in Vienna or the Museum of Contemporary Art in

Montreal…

The

Daniel Templon Gallery

in Paris will hold the exhibition “Contes ineffables”, a

series of recent works of the artist, from 11th January to 26th February 2014.

The images on this edition’s cover and dividing sheets are representing part

of his works from this exhibition, which

Gérard Garouste

let us discover

exclusively in preview.
