“
CARTE BLANCHE”... IS
OLIVIER SAILLARD
For this edition which is dedicated to the Women’s Collection S/S 14, MODEM
is giving the “carte blanche” to
Olivier Saillard, Director of the Palais Galliera
,
City of Paris Fashion Museum on the occasion of the reopening of the
museum on the 26th September 2013.
Historian, critic and curator,
Olivier Saillard
is re-inventing fashion perfor-
mances by inspiring himself through the mise-en-scène and codes of fashion
shows.
In 2012, for
“
The Impossible Wardrobe”
,
he invited his muse
Tilda Swinton
to present with stretched arms and cautious but ballet-like movements,
57
garments taken from the museum and worn by anonymous persons or
celebrities that are gone today. The performer, who appeared in a pure
blouse and gloves seized these relics, capes, dresses, coats and accessories
and reanimated them for 45 minutes.
Olivier Saillard and Tilda Swinton
will present
“
Eternity Dress”
,
another fashion
performance which is going to be shown during Paris Autumn Festival next
November.
For its reopening,
the Palais Galliera
is celebrating the couturier
Azzedine
Alaïa
by dedicating a first Parisian retrospective to him. The exhibition
“
Alaïa”
(
from 28/09/13 to 26/01/14) is held in the renovated galleries of the Palais
Galliera as well as in the hall Matisse of the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville
de Paris (Museum of Modern Art City of Paris). This exhibition presents
a selection of seventy iconic creations of the haute couture designer.
