Inside this space, visitors can immerse themselves in a dimension of mystery and dream, observing a constellation of branches, leaves, and stars. Pablo Trincia's engaging narration of Gianni Rodari's nursery rhymes aims to bring back childhood memories and rekindle the joy of enchantment and desire.

5VIE DESIGN WEEK – PORN CHIC MAKING LOVE BEGINS WITH YOU

The new interiors project signed by designer Maria Vittoria Paggini explores the concept of nudity within an erotic and symbolic iconographic context. Maria Vittoria Paggini opens the doors of the transformist apartment in the heart of the 5Vie, part private house, part gallery, which this year promises to overturn the canons of living with an installation that reflects on the sense of nudity, in the unfolding of an erotic and symbolic iconographic paradigm. At Casa Ornella nudity does not express itself in a reduction of stylistic codes and formal sobriety but becomes an intense and opulent stage where the body is staged. This is the only “undressed” element shown in its roughness and at the same time decorative texture of the interior project. Abandoned clothes, masks, and superstructures, the home a place of intimacy, becomes the sphere of choice to celebrate a newfound authenticity by stripping away the veils of stereotypes. Porno Chic is the concept that Maria Vittoria Paggini is presenting at Milan Design Week 2024. An experience of the rediscovery of the self, starting from the body, the instrument of a new palingenesis, resetting the sense of the obscene often attached to it.

5VIE DESIGN WEEK – UNDER THE WILLOW TREE DI SARA RICCIARDI
See on Map
April 16 2024 -> April 21 2024

At Palazzo Litta, an immersive installation comes to life thanks to the sinuous branches of the willow tree, decorated with the exquisite textile creations of the Antica Fabbrica Passamanerie Massia Vittorio 1843 of Turin. Paolo Borghi, a music therapist and musician, has helped to tune the sound balance of the branches' bar chimes, transforming the metal into a carrier of universal sound and vibrant energy. In the shade of the hanging branches of a willow tree, stillness reigns. This tree, with its delicate branches curving downwards, offers a reassuring refuge. It is an emblematic symbol of the life cycle, female cyclicity, and lunar power. Its branches become harmonic musical instruments, turning into hydrophones that emit sound vibrations through small metal bells. These notes, blown by the wind or the passage of people, evoke a melody with ancestral roots. A landscape that invites peace and meditation, where sound becomes a caress for the soul.

ADI DESIGN MUSEUM: ORIGIN OF SIMPLICITY: 20 VISIONS OF JAPANESE DESIGN

March 23 2024 -> June 09 2024

ADI Design Museum introduces a new perspective to Japanese design, titled Origin of Simplicity: 20 Visions of Japanese Design. This exhibition is a transversal overview through design and craftsmanship to understand the origins of the very concept of simplicity, rooted in diverse philosophical schools of thought belonging to this culture ranging from Zen Buddhism to Shinto animist thought and almost the opposite of Western rationality.

The exhibition is a brand new piece of research conceived by curator Rossella Menegazzo, a researcher into the history of Japanese art and culture from the University of Milan, together with graphic and exhibition design by Japanese designer and curator Kenya Hara, who conceived the exhibition itinerary as a forest through which to walk.

On display, there are over 150 works, mostly unseen before in Italy and designed by the most representative names in modern and contemporary design, some of whom have written the history of Japanese design starting from the 1960s, along with other exponents from later generations who are less known to the international public.

April 15 2024 -> April 21 2024

Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of culture, cafés, and young designers, this year Ingo Maurer incorporates amorphous textures, flowing forms, and organic elements into an installation in the centre of via Tortona. Located at the BASE cultural centre, the Flowair installation winds its way through the inner courtyard, up the fire escape, and onto the roof, offering a spectacle of light and colour both by day and by night.

In this installation, Ingo Maurer explores the theme of inflated shapes, skilfully playing with form, colour, and light to create a visual experience. During the day, visitors experience a variety of objects that are set in motion using wind machines and the natural wind. At night, the light component is added: a play of different Led light colours, which intensifies the surprise from the same perspective, creates a "scent of light".

Urban space is seen as "an ecosystem that, by deconstructing, transforms itself from its own material, as it happens in nature. An idea of circularity applied to architecture in which the creative process becomes central". The social and cultural theme launched by this installation is taken up by Corriere della Sera, Living, and Abitare with some meetings in Sala Buzzati.

April 15 2024 -> April 21 2024

Transitions, the installation proposed by Stark on the occasion of the new theme suggested by the Fuorisalone, invites a multisensory and interactive exploration of the transitions created by the relationship between matter and water. For the first time, walking into the Sala dei Pilastri of the Castello Sforzesco resembles venturing into matter in a state of transition, thanks to the signs that the presence or absence of water generates with and within it. As could happen for the soil, the fragmented, hardened, and dry lines are transformed through the presence of pervasive humidity, evolving into winding flows in the matter’s internal pathways. This year as well, the composer Paolo Bragaglia inspires a perceptive exploration through sounds as living matter in transition. The soundscape thus guides the gaze through the smooth transitions of light that enliven the venue. The collaboration of Stark with the creative team composed of architects Alice Buroni and Gloria Lisi together with Alex Buroni and Sabine Lindner leads to a representation of the transitions between the drawn forms by the presence of water in matter, where an unexpected trompe-l'œil reflects matter and human beings as interacting parts of the same nature.

DESIGN VIBRATIONS
IZIPIZI, the Parisian prêt-à-porter eyewear brand distributed in Italy by Moroni Gomma that since the creation in 2010 has never stopped churning out new collections for all generations and times of life, takes part in the 2019 Milanese design week participating at one of its most anticipated and followed event, the exhibition Interni Human Spaces at the Università degli Studi di Milano.

The installation "Izipizi Eyeglasses - Design Vibrations" signed by the designer Chiara Andreatti illustrate the brand research of shapes patterns and colors, revealing its design DNA: the South Portal becomes a scenographic optical totem, which projects light vibrations capturing the eye and attention of visitors.

"The concept originates from the desire to use the architectural element of the arch as a collector / archive and the repetition of neon tubes and eyeglasses is the focal element of the project, which gives life to a very contemporary light"- explains Chiara Andreatti . "The portal is intended as an entry into a new generation world: the glasses, chosen in the turtle texture and in different colors, stand out from the bright backdrop, their materials and colors are illuminated creating games of transparency and materiality, focusing on the pleasant contrast between the density of glasses and the impalpability of light ".

A scenography with a strong aesthetic and graphic impact that perfectly interprets the sophisticated yet simple soul of the Parisian brand, blending it with the enchanting atmosphere of Italian cities. A place of interaction for students and visitors, invited to take pictures and share their selfies on social networks, projecting the positive vibrations and iconic design of IZIPIZI everywhere

JR LA NASCITA INSTALLATION MILAN CENTRALE STAZIONE

April 10 2024 -> May 01 2024
*
On the occasion of Salone del Mobile, French visual artist JR has unveiled a new site-specific installation at Milan’s Stazione Centrale, entitled La Nascita (The Birth). The monumental trompe-l’oeil blurs the boundaries of time and place, fashioning a surreal architectural fantasy that draws a link between the grandeur of the station today and its history. In 1906, following the opening of the Simplon Tunnel, an engineering feat marking the burgeoning era of train travel in Milan, King Victor Emmanuel III laid a symbolic foundation stone for the new central train station. As one of the longest train tunnels in history, tons of rock were excavated from the Alps to create the ambitious Simplon passage. JR superimposes the rugged, chiseled facade of the hollowed mountain onto the Milano Centrale Railway Station. La Nascita evokes the historical strata of Milan’s main train station. The building, a testament to transitional architecture, underwent numerous design revisions over its two decades of construction to accommodate evolving visions of Italy. JR propels the station into another transition, seamlessly weaving mineral formations into the amalgamation of classical Roman, eclectic, rationalist, art nouveau, and Art Deco architecture. As with his installations La Ferita on Florence’s Palazzo Strozzi and Punto di Fuga on the Farnese Palace in Rome, a deep gash opens the station. Where the opening leads is unknown, yet it beckons viewers to consider both the celebrated and sorrowful histories memorialized on the station’s facade, inside its halls, and under its platforms. While wandering amid scattered mineral formations on the Piazza, travelers are invited to contemplate the journey of life and the indomitable human urge to explore, exchange, and migrate.

Whispers of Nature showcases five collections that have been born from listening to the subtle murmurs of nature often overlooked in our daily lives: from the ambiguity of clouds, the relationship between light and shadow, the flow of time perceived underground or in a passing rain, plants soaked in water. Her work is characterized by the use of objects belonging to the domestic world or organic materials that the artist integrates into her production. The exhibition, curated by Lucia Aspesi and Fiammetta Griccioli, brings together the largest body of works ever presented by Chiara Camoni and, together with a series of new productions, gives life to an architecture of collectivity and memory, whose forms are inspired by the Italian gardens of the late Renaissance and the ancient amphitheaters.

Pirelli HangarBicocca presents a retrospective of New York-based artist Nari Ward, an internationally acclaimed artist, known for his installations that combine familiar and humble materials into a layering of socio-historical references. With a particular focus on time-based media works, including video, sound, performative sculptures, and installations, the exhibition titled Ground Break delves into over thirty years of practice, presenting early seminal and historical works as well as new productions. The narrative unfolds through the seminal large-scale installations, originally realized by Ward between 1996 and 2000 for Ralph Lemon’s choreography Geography Trilogy, presented here in an exhibition setting for the first time since then. The three works will create a new choreography together with other sculptures, videos, installations, and the bodies of the visitors. The notion of performativity animates the exhibition itself, which will be marked by a program of live collaborative actions running throughout the show. The exhibition will be complemented by a monographic volume presenting the most recent studies on Nari Ward’s practice, exploring aspects of performativity, sound and time-based practices that have emerged from collaborative exchanges in the artist’s work.

SaloneSatellite is the jewel in the crown of the Salone del Mobile, an event dedicated to young designers, instantly becoming the meeting place par excellence for entrepreneurs/talent scouts and the most promising designers. Its creation, in 1968 by Marva Griffin Wilshire, who is still its curator, was an act of faith in the creative potential of creatives under 35. Many of the prototypes presented at previous editions have gone into production and many of the 14,000 designers, along with 270 international design schools, that have taken part, have become prominent names on the design scene. This visionary hub explores the design world of the future, edition after edition, reflecting on how to tackle the challenges of the future from a design point of view. Each year, the SaloneSatellite Award rewards three of the most meretricious projects and assigns up to two Honourable Mentions. All the competing prototypes are assessed by an international jury and showcased in a single collective exhibition. SaloneSatellite is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024 with a large exhibition at the Triennale di Milano, at which designers first encountered on the cusp of their careers present their most recent projects, already in production or not.

TRIENNALE MILANO: DAN GRAHAM

A tribute to Dan Graham (Urbana, 1942 - New York, 2022), one of the most important international conceptual artists, through a focus devoted to "pavilions," works created since the 1980s that lie on the border between art and architecture. Accessible and visitable, the pavilions, constructed of steel and glass (mirrored or semi-reflective), create an environmental dimension that challenges the viewer's perception and relationship with space. The outdoor space in front of the Palace of Art houses the large-scale London Rococo pavilion, commissioned in 2012 for Sculpture in the City of London. In the garden, the Sagitarian Girl pavilion from 2008 is presented. Part of the Cuore, on the other hand, is dedicated to hosting video documentation, works, and in-depth materials.
