His wide-ranging career is marked by choreography, performing, painting, sculpting, video, sound and light arts. Wilson was born in 1941 and his first choice of study (Business administration in the University of Texas) didn’t keep his attention for a long time, because of his wild passion about arts. In 1965 he graduated in Interior design from Pratt Institute. By that time he started his own experimental theatre group, which quickly made him recognizable within the New York’s art elites. By the early 1970’s he started to spread his uncommon vision about theatre in Europe. Wilson also studied painting with George McNeil and architecture with Paolo Soleri at his complex, and attended lectures by Sibyl Moholy-Nagy. Wilson’s inspirations are expanding from producing Japanese Noh plays, standard operas, a production of Snow on the Mesa, a dance co-work with Martha Graham; to a new stage musical with the composer Tom Waits and the Irish playwright Martin McDonagh. Through the years, he continued to do various collaborations with world known artist, including Philip Glass, Heiner Müller, William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, David Byrne, Rufus Wainwright, Marina Abramović, Willem Dafoe, Darryl Pinckney and others . In 2013 Wilson, in association with Mikhail Baryshnikov and co-starring Willem Dafoe, put on stage “The Old Woman ”, an adaptation of the work by the Russian author Daniil Kharms . In the same year Robert Wilson gets honored with the Olivier Award for Best New Opera for Einstein on the Beach .
