121 1998 DESIGNER Modem Women’s Milano Modem Women’s Paris Spring-Summer 1999 Covers by RON ARAD Ron Arad’ s work as an industrial designer, artist and architect is often described as radical, because of his brave improvisation with steel, aluminium and polya- mide and his untypical re-conception of the form and structure of furniture. Arad was born in 1951 in Israel, he graduated in t he Jerusalem Academy of Art, the Architectural Association in London . In 1989, with Caroline Thorman, he founded Ron Arad Associates architecture and design practice, based in London. From mid-to-end 1990`s he settled the Ron Arad Studio, design and production unit in Como, Italy. Up until 2009, Arad was the Head of Design Products Department at the Royal College of Art. Ron Arad was the winner of the 2011 London Design Week Medal for design excellence award . He became a Royal Academician of the Royal Academy of Arts in 2013 . In his limi- ted edition studio, Arad designs for various kinds of international companies in- cluding Kartell, Vitra, Moroso, Fiam, Driade, Alessi, Cappellini, Cassina, WMF and Magis and many others. Ron Arad designed a number of Public Art pieces, most recently the Vortex in Seoul, Korea, and the Kesher Sculpture at the Tel Aviv University. Arad designed the ToHA office complex in Tel Aviv, under construction until 2018. Once completed, it will be the tallest skyscraper in Israel.
