New edition

The fourth editon of Anherm Biennale Mode will take place from 1 June to 3 July 2011 in the city of Arnhem, The Netherlands.

On February the 21st, 2011, Arnhem Mode Biennale announced that its fourth editon will take place from 1 June to 3 July 2011 in the city of Arnhem, The Netherlands. This huge fashion event happens every two years since 2005, and this time, it is entitled Amber.

Why ? Well, to personify and above all unravel the complex phenomenon of fashion through a symbolic woman named Amber. In order to do so, the Artistic director JOFF has created a tryptich concept. That is to say, the presentations, exhibitions, workshops and lecture will be focused around three locations in the city of Arnhem: the epicentre, or main exhibition space; the city centre; and the Museum for Modern Art Arnhem.

- The Epicentre, located in an old industrial plant, will focus on the glamour, dream aura of fashion. It will try to understand why and how fashion consists of a series of universes created by their designers. Thus, Prada, Maison Martin Margiela, Rodarte, A.F. Vandervorst and Damir Doma have been asked not only to select and display garments, but also to design their own ‘habitat’ installations, reflecting their worlds.

- The city: the purpose of this second spot is for the inhabitants of Arnhem to be able to analyse their own relationships with fashion. The artists’ collective Suze May Sho has designed a special installation for this, including a pop-up photo studio. People will get the unique chance to be photographed and designed by leading Dutch artists, makeup artists and photographers, and to see their portraits billboarded throughout the city.

- The museum: The Museum for Modern Art Arnhem is the site of an exhibition entitled Get Real/Real Self created by artist/researcher Joke Robaard in collaboration with artist/observer Giene Steenman. Together, they have built a spatial fashion lexicon around words such as ‘coat’, ‘scarf’, ‘sock’ and ‘parka’.

In the streets of Arnhem, several pop-up stores and workshops will be charted from the likes of Ra (an enterprise to support young artists and independent fashion designers based in Antwerp, Belgium), like the one calledSugar House that will gather seven fashion artists in a three storey house (Petrus Heeren, Anna Kushnerova, Frederik Heyman, Romain Brau, Narelle Dore, Elise Gettliffe, Romain Trinquand).
