The French Year in Brazil, which takes place from April 21st to November 15th 09, results from a decision taken by the French and Brazilian presidents in 2006 and follows the year of Brazil in France (2005) which had enjoyed great success. It gives France the opportunity to present in different Brazilian areas the various faces of its competences and its know-how in all fields.

The exhibition will travel across Brazil and will be presented in Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and Sao Paulo, between July 2009 and January 2010.
It aims at: promoting Saint-Etienne beyond France’s frontiers, promoting French design beyond France’s frontiers, participating to the dissemination of French culture during the year of France in Brazil and making durable the existing partnerships or develop new partnerships with schools, design centres and cities in Brazil.
It is organized in three parts:
- the presentation of the Cité du Design , emblem of Saint-Etienne design city, Rhône-Alpes Great Project
- Flight Number 10: a selection of French designers
- Mini City Eco-lab: a nomad project market that reports experiences from all over the world, associated with actions developed on Saint-Etienne territory., coming from the exhibition-event initiated by John Thackara for the Biennial.
