Marsèll celebrates the launch of its new music label, Marsèll Records, with the publication of a very special music and video project. The album is called Ye Shanghai is a project by the renowned artist Roberto Paci Dalò. His work investigates the controversial story of the Shanghai’s jewish ghetto, located in the Japanese district of the Chinese metropolis. It has been compiled by collecting different audio and video records which are dated back to the Japanese occupation of Shanghai, which took place during the 2nd World War, between 1931 and 1949. With Zhou Xuan's traditional song Ye Shanghai as a main theme, the album is a combination of hybrid sounds and decomposed textures, that evoke memories from the past, while leaving a mark on the present through their noise and electronic appeal. With the support of the British Film Institute, which provided the material, and Arthub, the music and video performance has been showcased at SH Contemporary – Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair on September 6th and is now available at Marsèll Records.
