Marie-Louise Carven, better known as ‘Madame Carven’, the famous French couturier and Founder of the Paris-based fashion house Carven, died at the age of 105 on Monday, June 8th, at her home in Paris.

Born Carmen de Tommaso, the “doyenne of great fashion designers”, as Didier Grumbach, Honorary President of the Fédération Française de la Couture called her, launched the fashion house Carven in 1945, which has been a considerable success since its inception. Her career was marked by a multitude of highlights, including a retrospective of her namesake label at Palais Galliera in 2002 and the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres nomination in 2009. Following its acquisition by Société Béranger in 2008, Carven started to make headlines again with Guillaume Henry as an Artistic Director. After Henry’s departure to Nina Ricci, the brand named Alexis Martial and Adrien Caillaudaud at its helm, who continue Madame Carven’s success story.
