Louis Vuitton just opened a new exhibition space in the heart of its traditional manufacture in Asnières-sur-Scène, in order to highlight its savoir-faire and introduce to its customized pieces — the art of trunk-making, a special orders department of the house which is led by Patrick-Louis Vuitton. In fact, La Galerie is an exhibition space, which also houses the former family home, in addition to the workshops where the made-to-order items are still produced. The space was inaugurated on July 5th, the first day of Paris Haute Couture, with an exhibition curated by Judith Clark.

Clark’s aim was to reveal the intimate aspects of the house’s history, while focusing on its ties with the ateliers, and underlining the presence of the Louis Vuitton universe in order to create a space for discovery that is deeply rooted in the present. In order to achieve this, she provided an exhibition on two floors, which is curated to allow free roaming with no specific order, though elements are grouped according to themes, such as globalisation, client relations, the Monogram, nature, and the avant-garde, among others. La Galerie therefore features hand-picked objects, documents and collection pieces from the Louis Vuitton archive, such as clients records, sales registers, posters and original photographs, which are kept alongside trunks, suitcases, bags and ready-to-wear collections.
