American pop superstar Lady Gaga bought three pairs of the iconic Armadillo Boots by the late British fashion designer Alexander McQueen. The shoes were auctioned at Christie’s Handbags & Accessories Auction that took place from July 14th to 23rd in New York. The auction was held in the aid of UNICEF to benefit the Nepal relief efforts. Each pair featured in McQueen last ever collection, the Spring / Summer 2010 entitled Plato’s Atlantis, but never went on sale, and it had a guide price of $10,000. Because of their unique and complex construction, they were never produced so only 21 pairs of these shoes from the show are in existence. The shoes were worn by Gaga in her music video Bad Romance and embody the memory of her brief yet meaningful friendship with the late designer. The singer, who is one of the McQueen’s most affectionate customer and admirers, was determined to possess all three and bid up to $295,000 for ownership.
