The CFDA announces the entry of 40 new designers, which brings the total membership to 508, and appoints Diane Von Furstenberg as the council’s new Chairman. Steven Kolb, formerly the CEO, was named CEO and President of CFDA, and Lisa Smilor is the new Executive Vice President. The new appointment is just an alignment of titles with Von Furstenberg and Kolb's existing responsibilities and roles within the organization.

During 9 years under the leadership of Steven Kolb and Diane von Furstenberg, both appointed in 2006, the CFDA has undergone a series of meaningful developments, including the launch of CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the Fashion Incubator, and New York Fashion Week: Men’s, among other initiatives and events that have expanded the global reach of American fashion.
“ The 40 new members – the highest number joining the organization in its history — add to the diversity of the CFDA community“ said Kolb. Among the new members are Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air, Siki Im, Francesca Amfitheatrof of Tiffany & Co.
