André Courrège – the French fashion legend has died on Thursday 8 January at the age of 92.

The revolutionary designer has become famous by his Space Age collection in 60’s and has often been credited with the invention of the mini skirt. His modern style has changed the face of women fashion from one day to another with his graphic A line shift, a trouser suit or the short white go-go boot.

Courrège was an incarnation of an artist so even if he studied a civil engineering for a while, he "switched" quickly to the career of fashion designer and tailor. After 11 years of formation under the maestro of couture Cristóbal Balenciaga, he opened his own salon at 48 Avenue Kleber. He employed as his assistant another ex-Balenciaga student, Coqueline Barrière, and he married her 6 years later. This woman has accompanied the creator both in work and life till his last days and she said during the Monday’s funeral in Pau in the South of France: “It was a great man but he was annoying. That’s why he was able to do what he did.” Even French president François Hollande consecrated him a Tweet: "A revolutionary designer, using new materials and geometric shapes, André Courrèges leaves behind a footprint in the world of high fashion."

The Courrèges fashion house continues his activity with the duo of young artistic directors Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer and André Courrège continues to live in our minds as a great fashion man and a liberator of women.
