The awards ceremony announcing the winners of The Fashion Awards 2023 (TFA) was held in London on Dec. 04, 2023. The evening, hosted by British broadcaster Maya Jama and musical artist Kojey Radical, celebrated 16 awards. TFA nominees and winners are voted for by an international judging panel made up of over 1000 industry experts.
Organized by the BFC, the event is the primary fundraiser for the BFC Foundation Charity and celebrates the role of fashion at the intersection of culture and entertainment, spotlighting creative talent and telling the stories of the year in fashion through the lens of purpose, excellence, and creativity.
The event is the primary fundraiser of the BFC Foundation, which supports the future growth and success of the British fashion industry by focusing on education, grant-giving, and business mentoring. In the financial year 2022/2023, the BFC remitted over £1.2M in funds to designers and scholars.
Jonathan Anderson took home the Designer of the Year Award for both his work at Loewe and JW Anderson. Valentino Garavani was honored for his Outstanding contribution to fashion celebrated with a fashion show of 24 of the most iconic red dresses. The British fashion industry paid tribute to Dame Vivienne Westwood and her fearless approach to design and activism and recognized Joe Casely-Hayford with a posthumous Special Recognition Award for his incredible contributions to fashion and culture.
TFA celebrated this year’s New Wave: Creatives cohort. The accolade represents 50 of the most innovative and inspiring young creative talents from around the world spanning continents and creative disciplines. Each winner received a unique trophy designed by stylist, art director, and 2022 New Wave: Creative Julie Liu in collaboration with British glass production company World of Glass.
