Nicolas Di Felice to head 39th Hyères Festival fashion jury

The 39th edition of the International Festival of Fashion, Photography, and Accessories-Hyères will be held from October 10 to 13 2024 at the Villa Noailles. The exhibitions will be open to the public until January 12, 2025.

The competition for emerging talent will see three of the most influential figures in the fashion and photography scene to head its various juries. In particular, Nicola Di Felice for the fashion category, Achilles Ion Gabriel for accessories, and Coco Capitán for photography. The announcement of the details was held at the Maison de l’Unesco during Paris Couture Week.

The festival is founded and directed by Jean-Pierre Blanc, and chaired by Pascale Mussard. Since 1986, the festival promotes and supports young international fashion creation, since 1997 a competition is open to emerging photographers and since 2016, a competition distinguishes new creators of accessories. It is recognized as the oldest fashion competition for young professionals in the world.

Nicolas Di Felice is the artistic director of Courrèges since 2020. The Belgian stylist graduated from La Cambre before working at Balenciaga, Christian Dior, and Louis Vuitton. The Finnish designer Achilles Ion Gabriel is one of the most promising designers of the moment. He is the creative director of the Spanish footwear label Camper and he launched a namesake ready-to-wear and accessories brand at Pitti Uomo in January.

The fashion jury includes Laura Arguelles, director of the textile department of embroiderer Lesage Paris; artist Marine Brutti, who cofounded the (La)Horde collective and is co-director of Ballet National de Marseille; stylist and consultant Marie Chaix; casting directors Piergiorgio Del Moro and Samuel Ellis; photographer Carlijn Jacobs; visual artist and stage director Theo Mercier; actress Hari Nef; Interview Magazine’s editor in chief Mel Ottenberg; Julia Sarr-Jamois, fashion director of British Vogue; Igor Dieryck, Grand Prix of the Jury Première Vision 2023.

Selected for the 2024 fashion prize are Romain Bichot (Belgium), Dolev Elron (Israel), Logan Goff (U.S.), Gaëlle Halloo Lang (France), Fabian Kis-Juhasz (Hungary), Victor Koehler and Victoria Baia (France), Tal Maslavi (Israel), Julie Mouly-Pommerol (France), Lilian Navarro (France) and Kenshiro Suzuki (Japan).

The 10 finalists will be competing for the Première Vision Grand Prize; the 19M Chanel Métiers d’Art prize; the Mercedes-Benz sustainable collection prize, and the “Atelier des Matières” prize.

For accessories, the jury includes stylist and creative consultant Imruh Asha; Alice Bouleau, principal and head of the creative pole at Sterling International; actress Rossy de Palma; Campers product director Cecilia Llorens Bobadilla; Bottega Veneta’s design director Krzysztof Lukasik; photographer Kito Muñoz; Irish singer-songwriter Róisín Murphy; architect and Crosby Studios founder Harry Nuriev; journalist Robert Williams, and Grand Prix of the accessories jury 2023 Gabrielle Huguenot.

The Hermès fashion accessories prize provides a grant of €20,000, which will be awarded to one winner selected by the jury for the creation of a leather fashion jewelry or belt designed with sleeping materials.

The winner of the top Grand Prix du Jury de la Photographie 7L will create a book in collaboration with 7L Editions, Atelier EXB, and the Villa Noailles. Chanel will give a prize of 20,000 euros to the winner. Each of the 10 candidates must present a one-of-a-kind print based on a selection of American Vintage pieces. The 10 prints will be displayed during the entire duration of the festival at the villa Noailles. The grant, whose value equals 15,000 euros (including 5,000 euros for the selected photographer), consists of a fashion photoshoot order. It will be awarded to one of the finalists by the jury.
