The greek designer Mary Katrantzou will be the first creative director at the helm of the historic jewellery Maison's Leather Goods and Accessories Collection, thus filling a newly created role.

In a male dominated landscape at prestigious fashion houses, she is amongst the few female creative directors. The founder of the Roman company, Sotirio Bulgari, and her share the same greek origins. In the official announcement CEO Jean-Christophe Babin proclaimed having a similar creative vision and foresees "a path full of success".

The origins of the bond between Bvlgari and Mary Katrantzou date back to 2019, when the Italian jewellery company lent her a series of precious creations - necklaces, bracelets, earrings - for the S/S 2020 fashion show that she staged in the spectacular setting of the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sunio. Katrantzou's relationship with the Roman brand has intensified in 2021, when she designed a capsule collection of leather bags and jewelled minaudières inspired by the Maison's famous 'Serpenti' motif.

Her new mission at Bvlgari ranges from leather daily bags to silks of the night and high jewellery handbag models. "When does something, already considered an ornament, become a functional element? And what can we do in this intermediate space?", wonders Katrantzou.

Her first collection, which the designer says she has been working on since September 2023, will be available to customers of the LVMH group brand from August 2024.
