One recognises Bram Boo's (°1971) furniture designs from afar. They are somewhat akin to images and sculptures, overgrown and throwing unusual shadows. Because Bram Boo has an unusual approach to functionality and counts on the user's and viewer's flexibility to understand his furniture designs, there is always a somewhat disturbed but kind element of fun around his creations.
The jury of the Designer of the Year featured the Interieur Foundation, Design museum Gent, Grand Hornu Images and the magazines Weekend Knack and Weekend Le Vif. The members of the jury were charmed by the original frugality and the strong, innate formal language, the sensitive use of colour and the boundless enthusiasm of Bram Boo. His work will be on display at the Design Biennale INTERIEUR 2010.
