With the objective of differentiating ARCOmadrid's role within the overall art fair scene, and to reinforce its role as a source of information for the large number of collectors and art world professionals who visit the fair every year, ARCOmadrid 2012 presents a new initiative aimed at highlighting one artist per booth. The idea is to provide an extra incentive for galleries to propose a special presentation of one of the artists in its roster, without implying any kind of exclusive project or solo show. ARCOmadrid will then give special coverage to those artists in its press releases, catalogue and infoarco leaflet. At the same time, all information regarding these presentations will be sent in advance to all invited critics and curators before the fair's opening.

In 2012 Art Madrid will launch a new programme, Art Madrid Edition, in which a maximum of 15 contemporary art galleries, publishers and institutions will be selected to participate in the fair, each with a 25 m² stand offered at a special price. The participants in this new programme must submit editions of contemporary art in any of its forms (original graphic work, sculpture, artist books, objects, etc.), by artists of any nationality.

The Young Art programme, which was added to the fair last year, and was very popular among collectors and gallery owners-featuring new galleries that have been open for fewer than 5 years or that present artists under 40-will be overseen by a curator who will invite new Spanish and foreign galleries and select the different proposals.

A new specific programme for collectors will also be introduced to cater to private and professional collectors and companies in an effort to encourage sales, improve relations between collectors and dealers and artists and organize a variety of activities.

"The Ungovernables" - 2012 New Museum Triennial

The 2012 New Museum Triennial will feature thirty-four artists, artist groups, and temporary collectives—totaling over fifty participants—born between the mid-1970s and mid-1980s, ‘many of whom have never before exhibited in the US.

The exhibition title, “The Ungovernables”, takes its inspiration from the concept of “ungovernability” and its transformation from a pejorative term used to describe unruly “natives” to a strategy of civil disobedience and self-determination. “The Ungovernables” is meant to suggest both anarchic and organized resistance and a dark humor about the limitations and potentials of this generation.

The Triennial is curated by Eungie Joo, Keith Haring Director and Curator of Education and Public Programs.
