| "The Ungovernables" - 2012 New Museum Triennial The 2012 New Museum Triennial will feature thirty-four artists, artist groups, and temporary collectives—totaling over fifty participants—born between the mid-1970s and mid-1980s, ‘many of whom have never before exhibited in the US. The exhibition title, “The Ungovernables”, takes its inspiration from the concept of “ungovernability” and its transformation from a pejorative term used to describe unruly “natives” to a strategy of civil disobedience and self-determination. “The Ungovernables” is meant to suggest both anarchic and organized resistance and a dark humor about the limitations and potentials of this generation. The Triennial is curated by Eungie Joo, Keith Haring Director and Curator of Education and Public Programs. | ||

| The Whitney Biennial is an exhibition held every two years in which the Museum gauges the current state of contemporary art in America. The 2012 Biennial is being curated by Elisabeth Sussman, Curator and Sondra Gilman, Curator of Photography at the Whitney, and Jay Sanders, a freelance curator. Fifty-one artists have been selected. The Biennial comprises work—including paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installations—from both emerging and established artists. In addition to visual artists, the exhibition includes a select group of filmmakers, choreographers, musicians, and playwrights. These multidisciplinary arts will be presented in a large open space in the Museum’s fourth floor galleries. This is the seventy-sixth in the ongoing series of Biennials and Annuals presented by the Whitney since 1932, two years after the Museum was founded. | ||

| Parallel Collisions An experiential proposition inspired by art, cinema and literature, the 2012 Adelaide Biennial, curated by Natasha Bullock and Alexie Glass-Kantor, explores the ways in which ideas emerge, converge and re-form through time. From a floating island of 2000 cut-glass objects to an explosive light installation that clocks in real time human births, deaths and dying stars, this Biennial considers the temporality of the present as it parallels and collides with the past. Across four physical platforms, Parallel Collisions presents 21 commissioned works by some of Australia’s leading artists, 21 original texts, a designer, an architect, two curators and an institution, forming a connective tissue that attempts to understand our subjective experience of time. | ||

| In the spring of 2012, the 3rd edition of the contemporary art triennial exhibition will move from the nave of the Grand Palais into the open galleries of the Palais de Tokyo and other neighbouring institutions along la Colline des Musées. Through the concept of “Intense Proximity”, La Triennale will investigate what it means to be active as an artist working today, in the context of a globalized and diverse French art scene. The French Ministry of Culture and Communication has invited Okwui Enwezor to serve as Artistic Director of La Triennale. The first major event marking the reopening of the Palais de Tokyo in 2012, La Triennale will offer a large panorama of contemporary art at the intersection of the French art scene and global sites of production. Beginning within the interiors of the expanded and refurbished Palais de Tokyo, La Triennale is set in a series of overlapping cartographies that shift from small-scale collaborations with emerging research, production, exhibition, and performance spaces in Paris and the surrounding suburb, to explorations of the critical valences between the near and far, between the edges of France and countries adjacent to and bordering them. iming to explore potential areas of dialogue between various artistic disciplines and cultural scenes, Artistic Director Enwezor will work in close collaboration with a team of four associate curators, all passionately involved in the contemporary art scene on which they have their own personal take : Mélanie Bouteloup, Abdellah Karroum, Émilie Renard and Claire Staebler. | ||
