Curators: Nicolas Bourriaud & XYZ

The 3rd Athens Biennale 2011 is a double project in the form of an international exhibition and a feature film.

Curated by renowned curator and art theorist Nicolas Bourriaud and XYZ (Xenia Kalpaktsoglou, Poka-Yio and Augustine Zenakos, the curatorial trio which founded the Athens Biennale), MONODROME revolves around an unlikely encounter: The Little Prince meets Walter Benjamin.

This intentionally peculiar coupling of the two figures acts as the ground onto which the ongoing worldwide sociopolitical and financial upheaval will be examined, through a narrative that will address humanity in a universal and poetic manner.

Biennale of Cuenca-Ecuador, up to its eleventh edition, after breaching the 23 years of existence in 2010. Today, along with Sao Paulo, Havana and now San Juan Poly / Graphic Triennial, Puerto Rico; Cuenca belongs to the select group of macro events established in Latin America and the Caribbean, with greater longevity in their management. From the being, Biennale, eminently pictorial in its infancy, this event has been progressive steps of openness to other disciplines, events and media, taking on the challenge that this imposes on the exhibition platform of its kind.
