Quality, enriching experiences, ethics, and identity are the key words for redefining the values of the fashion industry. These principles are integrated into the DNA of multi-brand showrooms and reflected in the coherent collection of the brands they represent. Keeping this in mind, we interviewed the team at the Milanese showroom Spazio 38, located in the heart of the Navigli district. In a constantly evolving sector, influenced by the difficulties and constraints that emerged season after season since the beginning of this transitional phase, the challenge for the showroom's 100%-female team is clear: to support visionary brands capable of competing in today's market without losing their identity.
We are delighted to share the content of this conversation with the Modem community.
Modem: Showrooms work behind the scenes of fashion, but they make capitals like Milan and Paris key international commercial hubs. Spazio38 manages the collections of emerging and niche brands. How do you scout, and what guides you in your brand search?
Spazio 38: Our scouting never begins with the product itself, but with the vision. We seek brands with a clear identity, consistent design, and an authentic narrative. We're interested in identifying emerging and niche brands that don't chase the market, but have the potential to engage with it consciously; artisanal excellence that respects sustainability and emphasizes manufacturing expertise. We observe a lot, travel, analyze, but above all, listen. For us, it's crucial to perceive a clear direction: aesthetics, quality, positioning, and the ability to evolve. We don't just select collections, but perspectives. Milan and Paris are strategic hubs, but our perspective is international: we seek brands that can integrate into a global ecosystem while maintaining their uniqueness and respecting the environment.
Modem: Spazio38 has an all-female team. What's the value of working on an all-female team?
Spazio 38: It wasn't a deliberate choice, but a natural convergence of sensibilities and skills. Women from different generations and backgrounds, each with unique perspectives and approaches, come together every day to create something special. It's precisely from the convergence of these diverse experiences that Spazio38's identity takes shape: its value lies in complementarity. Working in an all-female team often means having an extremely attentive approach to detail, listening, and being open to new ideas to build strong relationships. There's an empathetic dimension that's central to our relationships with brands and buyers. We believe in collaborative leadership, shared responsibility, and a strategic vision that's never rigid, but adaptable.
Modem: What is your business model to support the creatives of the future?
Spazio 38: Our model is based on strategic support, not just commercial support. We don't just present collections to buyers: we work on positioning, building identity, defining target markets, and ensuring the project's long-term sustainability. We act as a bridge between creativity and the market, between aesthetics and strategy. This means supporting designers in understanding the dynamics of retail, showrooms, and e-commerce, helping them grow in a structured and informed way. We believe in organic, unforced growth that enhances the brand's authenticity.
Modem: You also collaborate with a contemporary art and design gallery, Imperfettolab. How did this synergy with fashion arise and develop?
Spazio 38: The synergy stems from a personal and design encounter. With Imperfettolab, we share a vision: a project that unites art and design with coherence and a strong identity. The collaboration develops in a space that is not merely an exhibition but an experiential one. Fashion and design dialogue naturally, because they share a design culture, research, and attention to detail. This fusion creates a richer context in which the product is not isolated but inserted into a broader narrative.
Modem: The choice to represent also design objects such as Studio X handmade resin vases, or marble objects by XC-Objects (Bianco67 x Parasite) aims to consolidate the strategic vision of the natural dialogue between design and fashion?
Spazio 38: Absolutely. Representing companies like Studio X or projects like XC-Objects isn't a random extension, but a choice consistent with our vision. We believe that design and fashion share the same DNA. Fashion dresses the body, design dresses space: both express identity. Integrating design objects into our journey strengthens this idea of cross-cutting dialogue and offers our interlocutors a more complete experience. For us, it's not about diversification, but about consolidating a cultural and strategic vision that places the connection between creative languages at its core.
