Chanel is expanding its Métiers d’art initiative with a new cultural program, presented by le19M at the Pudong Museum of Art in Shanghai, running from September 25 to November 15, 2026.
Led by la Galerie du 19M, this new international project will embody the founding values of the Métiers d’art: passion, transmission, innovation, and generosity. Held in Shanghai, a city of contrasts, exchange, and creative vitality, it will foster a dialogue between le19M’s Maisons d’art and the contemporary creative scenes of both China and France.
Focusing on traditional savoir-faire while revealing the wealth of an extraordinary living heritage, the exhibition will bridge the excellence of the French Métiers d’art with the dynamism of today’s Chinese artisanal and cultural landscape.
“With this new international project, la Galerie du 19M extends the values of the Maisons d’art, passion, transmission, and generosity, beyond its Parisian walls. Through a creative dialogue imagined for all audiences, the project offers a sensory exploration of the Métiers d’art that combines heritage, contemporary techniques, and participatory experiences, affirming the status of savoir-faire as a universal creative language,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel SAS, president of Chanel Fashion, and president of le19M.
As la Galerie du 19M’s third international chapter, this Shanghai edition will mark a major milestone: the project will span the entire third floor of the Museum of Art Pudong, taking the form of a journey that is both playful and inspiring. La Galerie du 19M Shanghai will feature: An introduction to the unique savoir-faire of le19M’s Maisons d’art, highlighting the tools and techniques of the Métiers d’art; a group exhibition of artisanal creations by Chinese and French artists and artisans; a retrospective exhibition celebrating the centenary of the Lesage embroidery and weaving House; and a programme of talks and creative workshops Talks.
Founded by Chanel and dedicated to the creation and transmission of the Fashion and Decoration Métiers d’art, le19M has brought together eleven fashion and decoration art houses, along with their teams of over 700 artisans and experts, since 2021.
