Fashion & Mental Health: Bringing Different Perspectives Together in Hong Kong
Fashion connects people, professions and industries that rarely operate in isolation. The new Fashion & Mental Health Industry Dialogue in Hong Kong opens a conversation around an increasingly important issue: mental health. Taking place on 29 August at Club Lusitano, the event is the Hong Kong pilot of a dialogue format developed through Florian Müller’s Mental Health in Fashion campaign. It follows previous activities in Hong Kong, including talks at CENTRESTAGE, The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with a guest talk at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University planned shortly afterwards.
The discussion involves professionals from manufacturing, education, creative fields, fashion business and mental health. Among the participants are Stafford Lau, Director of Prosperity Textile, who supports the initiative, and Kennic Tong, founder of an eyewear brand and head of EmpowerEducation, where he focuses on professional development.
As local convenor, Tong helps shape the programme around the realities and perspectives of Hong Kong’s fashion community. Müller contributes to the content and moderation, drawing on the experience and professional network developed through the Mental Health in Fashion campaign.
The format is designed as an open, moderated conversation rather than a series of presentations. Participants can share professional experiences, discuss common challenges and consider practical approaches to wellbeing, communication and working conditions across the industry. Hong Kong is a fitting setting for this exchange, bringing together fashion, manufacturing, business, education and creative sector. The Industry Dialogue does not seek one universal answer, but creates space to explore healthier ways of working across the fashion environment.
The event is supported by MODEM as Media Partner. For this global B2B information and communications platform, it is a natural extension of its long-standing support of the Mental Health in Fashion campaign.
