The British Fashion Council has unveiled Fashion Britain, a landmark nationwide initiative designed to redefine how fashion is experienced, celebrated, and invested in across the entire United Kingdom.
The BFC launches "Fashion Britain" to decentralize British fashion and support regional talent
By decentralizing its core mission, the BFC extends its support beyond London to nurture talent, foster regional growth, and strengthen the UK's creative economy, recognising that British creativity is a national asset that thrives in every nation and region.
Bringing together cities, cultural institutions, retailers, designers, businesses, educators, and local communities, Fashion Britain creates a new platform for collaboration, connecting creativity, culture, and commerce to unlock opportunities for designers, strengthen local creative economies, and inspire the next generation of talent.
Fashion Britain Initiative: bringing BFC Strategy 2030 to six major UK cities
Fashion Britain is the latest strategic initiative to emerge from the BFC Strategy 2030. Following the pilot launch of Fashion Assembly, which brings fashion education into schools across the country, the initiative represents the next phase of the BFC's ambition to build a more accessible, connected and geographically representative industry.
Fashion Britain will launch this September across six of the UK's leading cultural cities: London, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and Edinburgh. Each location will deliver a curated programme of public events, designer conversations, cultural collaborations and retail experiences that celebrate local identity while connecting communities with the wider fashion industry.
BFC partners with Elle UK to launch national designer panel series
Among the first programme announcements, the BFC is partnering with Elle UK to launch the National Designer Panel Series, a new programme of live conversations bringing together leading designers, industry voices and emerging talent. Taking place across the participating cities, the series will create opportunities for audiences to engage directly with the people shaping British fashion while fostering dialogue, inspiration and new connections.
In the long term, Fashion Britain will strengthen local creative economies, inspire and develop the next generation of fashion talent, and create lasting pathways for designers and creatives to build sustainable careers within their own cities, ensuring the economic and cultural impact of British fashion is felt across the UK.
