This year, in June, a professional jury comprised of international curators will once again award four prizes for new work.

The award is Belgium’s equivalent of the Turner Prize in the UK, the Prix Marcel Duchamp in France, and the Vincent Award in the Netherlands.

Its international significance is indicated by a list of laureates that includes Pierre Alechinsky, Ann Veronica Janssens and Hans Op de Beeck.

This year the selected artists are: Félicia Atkinson, Jean-Baptiste Bernadet, Céline Butaye, Shelly Nadashi, Fabrice Pichat, Jasper Rigole, Helmut Stallaerts, Adrien Tirtiaux, and Philippe Van Wolputte.

The Young Belgian Painters Award 2013 jury:
Daria de Beauvais - Curator, Palais de Tokyo, Paris
Katerina Gregos - independent curator, Artistic Director of Art Brussels
Doris Krystof - Curator, Stiftung Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Dusseldorf
Daniel F. Hermann - Eisler Curator & Head of Curatorial Studies, Whitechapel Gallery, London
Francesco Stocchi - Curator, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam

The nine shortlisted artists will be invited to exhibit their work at the Centre for Fine Arts (Bozar) from June to September 2013. During the opening, the jury will award 4 candidates.
