CHINA / Hong Kong: Jims Lam wins Hong Kong Art Prize

Jims Lam Chi Hang wins the Hong Kong Art Prize, presented by the Asia Contemporary Art Show, for his painting “Beacon, Sheung Wan Hours — 01.05.”

The artist was awarded HK$80,000 for his work. The painting is the first of a series that Lam plans to create, exploring the theme of nighttime in each of the 18 districts of Hong Kong.

This year’s jury panel included
- Professor Frank Vigneron, Chinese University of Hong Kong
- Alan Chan, designer and collector
- Mimi Brown, founder and director of Spring Workshop
- Professor Peter Benz, Hong Kong Baptist University
- Tobias Berger, Managing Curator of M+Museum
- Kai Yin Lo, respected art and cultural consultant
- Hing Chao, recognized arts columnist and chairman and founder of Earthpulse Foundation
- Professor Richard Krepel, Professor of Illustration SCAD Hong Kong.

Three Certificates of Merit were also awarded to Man Chi Loy for “Study of Man in the Street”; Hung Fai Vito for “Transformation VI”; and, Ivy Ma for “Mountains and Sea”. A People’s Prize was voted on Facebook at www.asiacontemporaryart.com, and was given to Peter Ross for "Where is Your Heart".

An exhibition of the winning works, finalists and a selection of other shortlisted works will be held at the Wheelock Gallery in Queensway, Admiralty, from May 17th to June 2nd.

The Hong Kong Art Prize is a key fixture of the Asia Contemporary Art Show and also marks the beginning of Hong Kong’s most important week of the year for art collectors, galleries and artists.
