Around 80 artists from 39 countries will participate in the Moscow Biennale this autumn, the main theme of which is "More Light".

For the Fifth Moscow biennale, the curator of the Main project Catherine de Zegher has selected the topic "More Light", promoting more enlightened conversation and action, looking for the new ways for mutual understanding between "organisation, artist and audience".

It is also hoped that artists will take the opportunity to address the concept of time and space. "The artists in the 5th Moscow Biennale point out an urgent need to enact another kind of movement in the world. By entering slow time and slow attention, there is an increased receptiveness to sensation and movement—an unfolding that profoundly belongs to art and aesthetics" says Catherine de Zegher, who works in the drawings department of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and as Visiting Curator at Tapies Foundation in Barcelona.

The biennale has also invited artists to speak about the environment in the context of global disasters. Among them are Russian artist Aslan Gaysumov, who will speak about war, and Azerbaijani photojournalist Rena Effendi, who will take up the topic of pollution.

The 5th Biennale will take place from 20 September to 20 October with the main exhibition in Manege museum. There will also be various exhibitions at galleries and museum across the city. Art Moscow 17th International Art Fair , from September 18 to 22, will be one of key event of 5th Moscow Biennale.
