MAD Architects have designed the Pingtan Art Museum, which resembles a floating island.

The Pingtan Art Museum designed by MAD Architects has just begun its construction preparation phase.

Located on a small-scale island adjacent to the Pingtan Island itself, the form of the 40,000 square metre structure reflects the distant mountainous skyline.

Being the largest island in the Fujian province, Pingtan is also the Chinese island nearest to Taiwan – the location set to unify trade and cultural communication between Taiwan and mainland China.

It will be china's largest private collection and when opened will exhibit over 1,000 pieces of national treasures.
