The North American artist Bill Viola has been proclaimed winner of the XXIst edition of the Premi Internacional Catalunya 2009

Bill Viola (New York, 1951) is considered a pioneer in video art and is internationally recognized both as an innovative and classical artist. He has been instrumental in the establishment of video as a vital form of contemporary art. Throughout his 35 years of professional activity, Viola has created video tapes, architectural video installations, sound environments, electronic music performances, flat panel video pieces and works for television broadcas

José Montilla, President of the Generalitat and President of the Premi Internacional Catalunya 2009, will present the award during an institutional event which will take place at the Palau de la Generalitat on 30th June 2009.
