Canada-born womenswear designer wins LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize

Celebration time: Canada-born womenswear designer Thomas Tait won the inaugural edition of the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize, a new industry prize that aims to support new design talent.

Tait received a prize worth €300,000 for his eponymous womenswear label, in addition to a year-long mentorship by LVMH. The young designer was chosen by a jury panel of industry professionals, including Karl Lagerfeld, Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Céline’s Phoebe Philo, Kenzo's creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, Delphine Arnault, and LVMH executives Pierre-Yves Roussel and Jean-Paul Claverie.

The winner was competing against 11 other designers, including Simone Rocha, Tillmann Lauterbach, Simon Porte Jacquemus, Gabriele Colangelo, Shayne Oliver’s Hood by Air, CG by Chris Gelinas, Miuniku by Nikita and Tina Sutradhar, Tim Coppens, Vika Gazinskaya, and Suno by Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis.

Thomas Tait trained at London’s Central Saint Martins, before showing his ready-to-wear collections at London Fashion Week since 2011.
