Fashion's most secretive brand - Maison Martin Margiela - has appointed the industry's enfant terrible - John Galliano - as its new Creative Director.

Renzo Rosso, the Italian entrepreneur and President of the OTB group (Only the Brave), which has acquired Maison Martin Margiela in 2002, has officially confirmed this one-of-a-kind nomination today. "Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul,” said Renzo Rosso in conversation with WWD. “John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time. A unique, exceptional couturier for a Maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home.”

After his controversial dismissal from Dior in 2011, the British designer went on a sabbatical. He then assisted Oscar de la Renta for the costume design of Stephen Fry’s The Importance of Being Earnest theater play, and has been tapped by the Russian beauty and fragrance chain L’Étoile to consult the brand on its artistic direction and upcoming projects, in May 2014. Galliano will present his first collection for the Maison during the Spring/Summer 2015 Haute Couture season in Paris.
