Oscar de la Renta has died Monday evening at the age of 82, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The Dominican-American fashion designer was one of the most sought-after couturiers of the last decades. De la Renta became the go-to designer of celebrities, models and first ladies, and his classic yet ultra-feminine silhouettes are considered to be must-have collector pieces. Most recently, the designer made the wedding dress of the lawyer and human rights activist Amal Clooney for her marriage to Hollywood actor and director George Clooney. As previously announced during last Paris Fashion Week, Peter Copping, Nina Ricci’s former head-designer, was appointed to succeed the designer at the helm of the brand, in order to preserve and contribute to Oscar de La Renta’s one-of-a-kind legacy.
