Presentation - Friday March 4, 2016 at Le Grand Hotel du Palais Royal
« The meeting between Architecture and Nature is an essential theme in my collections. For this AW16 collection, I imagined an urban woman trip at Palm Spring in California, her silhouette in the middle of the desert. The graphics and vegetal contrast with mountains, cactus and streets… all those possible contrasts gave me inspiration» - Yasu Michino – Designer
Born in Tokyo, raised in New York and based in Paris, Yasu Michino has been designing leather goods over a decade for Parisian houses Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Sonia Rykiel and the Belgian leather goods company Delvaux, for whom he still acts as a design consultant. In 2014 he launched the brand of bags MICHINO.
The leather artisanal work elegance is combined with a subtle distinction of fantasy.
His designs can be summarized as the mix of understated French chic, Japanese Sobriety and American practicality. His works represents the balance between purity and decor, necessity and superfluous ideas, conformity and individuality. Exploring different standards of aesthetic in different cultures, each collection is inspired by his numerous travels, artworks and personal encounters that has shaped his vision of beauty.
While Yasu works in his design studio based in Paris, the bags are entirely sourced, sampled and crafted in Florence, Italy. Only the finest leathers are used to create one of a kind bags each season. Material selections include classic grained and smooth leather but also exotic skins as well as prints.
He continues to collaborate with prestigious brands as consultant designer while developping Michino as a creative playground to explore new aesthetic boundaries.
