NEW YORK/ PARIS: The Supima Competition’s Finalists

The annual Supima Design Competition was created to give runway exposure to emerging designer and was modeled after the legendary 1954 Wool Secretariat Competition.

Seven of America’s top design schools FIDM, Parsons, FIT, Kent State University, RISD, SCAD are asked to select one finalist from among their graduating seniors. Each finalist is asked to create a capsule collection of women’s eveningwear gowns from premium Supima denims, knits, corduroys, twills, and shirting.

A prestigious panel of judges decides the winner at a full-fledged fashion show held during the New York Fashion Week. Olivia Culpo, Model and Miss Universe, hosts this 9th competition edition and the jury is composed of:

- Moti Ankari Blogger
- Ann Caruso Fashion Stylist and Consultant
- Malina Gilchrist Market Director for T, The New York Times Style Magazine
- Avril Graham Executive Fashion & Beauty Editor at Harper’s Bazaar
- Carmen Lilly Closet Therapist and Personal Shopping Consultant
- Julia Loomis Filmmaker, Writer, and Fashion Ambassador
- Federica Marchionni CEO of Lands’ End
- Alicia Quarles Journalist
- Cameron Silver Fashion Director of the H Halston and H by Halston Brand
- Mary Alice Stephenson Style, Beauty Expert, Fashion Commentator and Founder of GLAM4GOOD
- Lilliana Vazquez Multi-Media Powerhouse
- Katharine Zarella Founder and Editor-In-Chief of Fashion Unfiltered

The winner will be announced at the show and will receive a $10,000 cash award.
This year, the jury chose as the 2016 Finalists (from left to right on the picture):

- Jacqueline Zeyi Chen from the Parsons School of Design
- Jiyeon Lee from the Fashion Institute of Technology
- Kara Michelle Kroeger from the Kent State University
- Jacob Blau from the Rhode Island School of Design
- Duston Jasso from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising
- Jeffrey Taylor from the Savannah College of Art and Design

The collections will be presented during two fashion weeks; the Thursday 8th of September at Skylight Clarkson Square for the New York Fashion Week and the Thursday 29th of September at the Paris Fashion Week.
