UK / London: Stella McCartney, The First Menswear Collection

The Fashion designer Stella McCartney drew inspiration from her Beatle father Paul McCartney for creating her first menswear collection and chose to present Thursday 10 November 2016 at the recording studio made famous by her father and his three fellow Beatles when they named one of their albums after Abbey Road.

Many guests joined the British designer to celebrate the evening: Kate Moss, Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault, Orlando Bloom, Laura Bailey, Twiggy, Toby Huntington-Whiteley, Sophie Kennedy-Clarke, Rosemary Ferguson, Phoebe Collings-James, Lotte Anderson, Anouck Lepere, Eva Riccobono and many others.The Stella McCartnery menswear Fall-winter 17 / 18 range will be releasing in January 2017.

[red]Lauren Cochrane[/red]: What were you thinking about when designing this collection?
[red]Stella McCartney[/red]: My tailoring training at Savile Row is definitely evident, but it also has an element that is rooted in what my father wore. I’m not afraid to bring in colours and textures, and I’ve brought in a fit that is definitely inspired by the late 1960s; not too tight, not too baggy, just something that’s perfect on the body. We also referenced so many different aspects of London subculture, like the art, architecture, music. It’s a bit like a history of the British music scene, from the Beatles to 80s punk rock. I also have to look at my husband and great men of the world who have inspired me, both historically and today to tomorrow.

[red]Lauren Cochrane[/red] : Did you enjoy the different challenges of designing for men?
[red]Stella McCartney[/red]: When I’m designing for women I know exactly what I’m doing, I don’t even think about it, it’s so natural. …
