The 60th edition of the Salone del Mobile, opens in Milan. The international event dedicated to furniture will take place until June 12, 2022 at the Rho Fairgrounds.

The events for the Salone del Mobile 2022

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is divided into three categories: Classic, which draws on the values of tradition, craftsmanship and skill in the art of making furniture and objects in the classic style; Design, products that speak of functionality, innovation and boast a great sense of style and xLux, the section devoted to timeless luxury re-read in a contemporary key.

The International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, is the sector’s leading event, showcasing an increasingly varied and comprehensive selection of excellent pieces year by year, encompassing the entire home furnishing system, ranging from decorative objects, furnishing accessories and textiles for the home.

Workplace3.0, an innovative exhibition area devoted to design and technology in workspace planning, that confirms its vocation as an exploration of brand-new approaches, forms and solutions to the workplace "of the future", in which the human factor and smart technologies have a vital role to play.

EuroCucina (with its collateral event FTK Technology For the Kitchen), specialising in built-in domestic appliances and their evolution. The 23rd edition of EuroCucina, the leading showcase for high-end kitchens, provides a targeted and innovative response to the huge interest in the sector.

The International Bathroom Exhibition showcased innovative products and ideas for bathrooms in the round, reflecting the evolution of the domestic bathroom – formerly a strictly functional space - into a dedicated sanctuary for relaxation and wellness. The 8th edition will highlight the companies’ innovative focus on sustainability. Cutting edge products for modern bathrooms will reflect today’s strong demand for efficiency and energy saving, with the accent on water efficiency, indoor pollution prevention and personal health.

S.Project, a crosscutting space devoted to design products and decorative and technical interior design solutions. S.Project is a multidimensional space with a heterogeneous selection of goods, with products ranging from interior to outdoor furnishing, from wellness products to fabrics, from lighting to acoustic solutions, from coverings to finishes.

SaloneSatellite, the event devoted to the under-35s. An outpost of creativity, it will occupy part of Pavilions 1 and 3 for the very first time, showcasing the work of some 600 promising young design talents. Along with the sectoral schools and universities, a great many of which are again taking part in this edition, the participating designers hail from 48 different countries, five of which, Cyprus, Congo, Cuba, Nigeria and Qatar, are new entries to SaloneSatellite. The designers will include the winners of the 2019 international editions of SaloneSatellite, whose prizes include free participation in the Milan event. The overarching theme is Designing for our future selves / Progettare per i nostri domani, with a particular focus on sustainability. The themes will be echoed by the graphics and general set-up of the pavilions, both entirely new, promising sensory explorations and turning SaloneSatellite into a welcoming design citadel. Visitor flows will gravitate around two great central squares linked to other hubs devoted to conviviality and interface. Rounding things off, two Conversations/Talks exploring the themes further will be held in the SaloneSatellite Arena.

The SaloneSatellite Award will be back for its 11th edition. Its jury chaired from the opening edition onwards by Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator, Architecture & Design Director, Research and Development, MoMA, presented for the 3 best projects amongst those put forward by the designers themselves and showcased in a single, collective exhibition, useful for navigating their personal spaces.

Cultural Projects

The Design With Nature installation by Mario Cucinella – S.Project’s Pavilion 15 from June 7 to 12, 2022
The installation " Design with Nature " is a project developed with the architect Mario Cucinella, which explores the themes of circular economy and reuse, starting with the idea that cities could be possible “reserves” of the future, where most of the raw materials used in construction could be sourced. The installation channels three main themes: ecological transition, the home as the prime urban element and the city as a mine, ranging over a large area that turns into both a landscape and, simultaneously, a refuge for discussion, sharing, reading, reflecting and working.

La Scatola Magica (The Magic Box) – Palazzo Reale’s Sala delle Cariatidi from June 7 to 17, 2022
La Scatola Magica is a site-specific audio-visual installation devoted to the 11 institutional values that have always made up its dna, Emotion, Enterprise, Quality, Design, Networking, Communication, Culture, Young People, Ingenuity, Milan and Savoir Faire. An equal number of Italian filmmakers will bring the threads of the story together: Francesca Archibugi, Pappi Corsicato, Davide Rampello, Wilma Labate, Bruno Bozzetto, Luca Lucini, Claudio Giovannesi, Gianni Canova, Donato Carrisi, Daniele Ciprì and Stefano Mordini respectively. The aim is to reawaken our sense of wonder, to create a memorable experience and celebrate the 60th anniversary and Milan in pursuit of beauty, through the language of film and theatre.
