Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo SS 23 will be held from August 29 to September 3, 2022 at the main venues of Shibuya Hikarie, Omotesando Hills, presenting a new format fusing digital and physical presentations with a total of 49 brands (27 physical presentations / 22 digital presentations, with 15 first- time participants), including the two brands giving presentations through “by R”, the support project of Rakuten Group, Inc. to support Japanese fashion brands.
During this edition, there will be the launch of a new support program for the talented brand with the potential to be active in the global fashion industry and the "SDGs that fashion can do" initiative. The brand Fetico, founded by the designer Emi Funayama, has been chosen as the support winning brand in the physical department of the first JFW "Next Brand Award 2023. Instead, Hidesign and Basicks present a collection based on sustainable materials as part of the "SDGs that fashion can do" initiative at the first Rakuten FWT and first fashion show.
During the Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo SS 2023, as a part of the “Japan Cultural Expo” being promoted by the Japanese Government, will be held a fashion show by kudos / soduk, Masu, Wataru Tominaga in cooperation with the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Japan Arts Council. These are brands pursuing fashion distinctive to Japan and gathering acknowledgement in recent years, both nationally and internationally.
The seasonal promotion video of Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo SS 2023 has been created by Mr. Kazuki Gotanda, a movie videographer/collage artist with a unique point of view, in cooperation with Mr. Taichi Mukai, a sing-a- song writer who is also active as a model. Mr. Taichi Mukai wrote the original season song “Fun!”, under the theme of “RakutenFWT” and “fashion”.
Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo SS 2023 also include the “Digital Voice” project, launched during the SS21 season, which utilizes fashionistas and influencers, in effort to raise the level of acknowledgement of Rakuten FWT and participating brands. This season again, there will be the “street snap project” in which a variety of faces, including models, creators, who embody the “now of fashion”, wear collection items of participating brands, and the “Recommend project” in which fashionistas representing Japan/overseas directly explain attention gathering looks and/or points in recommendation form.
